Friday already?!

Where the heck did this week go?! How can it already be Friday? That's insane! This week, obviously, passed me by in a hurry. Probably because I've been glued to my TV catching up on all the seasons of The Office and time has gone on around me. Yes, I've moved from intrigued to addicted. Darn it! It's cute, and I'm totally into Jim and Pam. I'm one of those people that follows the trend 3-4 years after things become cool. I'm a little slow on the uptake.

Anyway, Dave and I went on a date on Wednesday. Sarah B. babysat. It's nice to have a regular babysitter available. It was nice to get out and have dinner together. We've also had fun talks this week...some deep, some just fun...but really great connecting time.

Yesterday, I drove to K3 to visit my parents. We went to my all-time favorite restaurant called Blue's Cafe. It's seriously been there FOR-EV-ER. This is the place where I first experienced fried chicken fillet...and started a movement for chicken fingers around the world. It's delicious. We lowered the average age by at least 20 years though. You think I'm kidding? I'm not.

The rest of the afternoon was very relaxed. My dad made dinner. My dad is a rockstar chef. For fun, he made a roasted turkey breast, mashed potatos, stuffing, and vegetables. It was amazing! Even more so because I didn't have to cook it. Tonight for dinner, I'm thinking...frozen pizza? J/K...maybe. We'll see. I wish I could just hire my dad to cook for me all the time. That is one part of the domestic gene that I just did not get. I seriously come from 2 gourmet chefs and yet...I hate the mere thought of making food for dinner. Probably because we are ALL picky eaters and we are all picky in different directions, thus limiting the food palate considerably. Sigh.

Now that I am depressed about my dinner plans, I should go work in that direction....or clean my house. Why does cleaning my house sound so much more appealing???

You know you're getting old...

..when you mention New Kids on the Block, and the girls you are hanging out with stare at you blankly and ask if it's a television show. Sigh.

Wii have fun

Makeover

Well, after a 24 hour marathon session, my living room and hallway trim and pilllars are all painted. It was craziness, but a lot of fun. I dropped the kids off at Grandma and Grandpa's on Friday afternoon. Came back, met with my accountability partner, prayed, and then I made her help me tape the walls. :-) She had to leave, but my friend Jenny came by to help. It was just Jenny and me on Friday night and it took us 4 hours to get a first coat on everything. She was a trooper and stayed with me until we ran out of paint (we were almost done anyway). The next day, Mndy, Emi, Sarah B.,and Jenny (who came back!) helped me ALL day. Literally. They painted, cleaned, touched up, moved furniture, vaccuumed. We had the whole house finished and put back together by 3pm. It was great. Then we sat down to watch The Office. Now, I'm officially intrigued. Mindy left me the second season, so that is probably what I will be doing the rest of today. :-)

I'm so thankful to the girls. They not only were a TON of help, they made the project fun! Thanks ladies.

Real Quick

I'm posting real quick before hitting the gym. It seems this week has been super busy...and yet, up to those point, I don't have a lot accomplished to show for it. Oh well. Hopefully that will change this weekend. Mom and Dad Y. are taking the kids Friday and Saturday and I am painting all night Friday and all morning Saturday in my hopes to get this project finally completed. I'm looking forward to the end result. It should look really nice.

But, before that happens, I need to: Clean up, tape everything, buy paint and primer for the pillars, manage the kiddos, and do some work on the computer. I best get hopping.

Have a great day! I'll try to share some pictures of the work in progress later!

Yenerich Update

Well, I realize I haven't posted an update blog in a little bit. So here's what's going on in the Yenerich household:

*Callie is almost crawling. She is mobile and getting places, but has yet to master the hand/foot crawl. She is up on all fours and tends to go backwards currently. I imagine very soon she will get the forward motion. We are close (but haven't) to proclaiming her first word as "dada". She definitely calls Dave that when she sees him. I get more of a "nana" from her.

*Noah is singing all the time. I mean all the time. It's pretty cute. He's also bossy at times and whiny. Both are traits that we are working on. He really does a great job playing with Callie and helping me take care of her. Potty training...well, let's just say so far Noah has been a one-hit wonder.

*I hemmed my first pair of pants! You would think I would've learned this handy trait by now, but alas...no. My friend Abby came over one day and showed me how to use the sewing machine that we've literally had for 4 years that I've been afraid of. She made me thread it a few times so I would know what I was doing. She also taught me how to hem pants by hand. I feel so empowered!

*I'm getting pretty good at guitar hero even though Dave still kicks my butt. I say this because I've played against Helms and Miller (both guitarists) and won. I won't tell you that they were playing on the expert level and I was only playing on medium, because that would steal my glory.

*I've painted more trim. Our bathroom is now completely finished. I also painted the main bathroom and foyer's trim as well. Slow progress. Now, I'm anxious to do the pillars in the living room and the rest of the trim. I may need to do it when the kids aren't around for a length of time so that I can move furniture.

*Dave is on his new schedule at the AEC: 3 days of work, 4 days off. His first round will be this weekend when he works three days in a row. We'll see how this new schedule works out. It will be an adjustment from his old one.

*My house is a mess. Per usual. This time it's because of the painting and the fact that I am deep cleaning. There's also the ever present clutter of toys that permeates our existence.

*Perhaps the most important: God is really moving in my life right now. I've had some good conversations, and some really good prayer. Tony's latest sermon series is kicking my butt...in a good way. I'm definitely realizing my need for God and how I need to depend on Him. It's brought out some really good things and I feel that God is definitely shaping me right now.

Sweet memories

I love my kids. I had a really great day with Noah and Callie today. Looking at Noah today I saw a different person. He's growing up right before my eyes. Maybe it's his haircut, but seriously he just seems older. He was so sweet all day, playing and having fun. He sang songs on the potty and wanted me to sing "Jesus loves me" at least 5 times at bedtime. He even started to sing it with me. He told me that he loved me and goodnight (lately nighttime has been a battle. This was a really nice change). Callie slept for awhile this evening, so I actually woke her up to feed her again. Well, she was in a really great (and awake) mood. I let her roll all over the floor and she had a good old time laughing. I played with her for awhile and then just sat and watched. Tonight was one of those nights where I got all warm and gooey inside. My kids wear me out, frustrate me at times, but man...they are truly the best thing I was ever given. It's nights like tonight where I see all their potential as they get older. I get glimpses of what they might be like as they get older. And although it scares the pants out of me that they will one day grow up, I can't deny it. It's why I had the video camera out recording Noah singing his songs on the potty. I keep telling myself, "You are going to want to remember this". OK, I am getting mushy...but it's true. I totally love my kids.

Dream

Last night I had a dream that Mario Lopez was the leader of some really bad gang and he was soliciting girls to join him. The details are hazy to me now, but I remember that I worked at a school and "Slater" convinced one of the girls that she should be truant. So, the girl came to me and is trying to tell me why she won't be in class today and I know that Slater has something to do with it. The dream was really intense. It brought up a lot of anger within me apparently. So, when Slater came in, I tried to protect the girls from his influence and decided to fight him. Punching wasn't working, so I kicked him. Then I hear a yelp, and Dave say: What the heck?
Me (waking up): What?
Dave: Why did you kick me?! Ouch that hurt!
Me: Um, sorry. I was dreaming. (I then proceeded to tell him about protecting the girls from Slater, even though I know I wasn't making much sense. He wasn't impressed.)

Apparently, I got him pretty good in the shin. Take THAT Slater!

Anniversary Update

So, the furnace got "fixed" (meaning it broke again this morning, the guy came back and has to order a part, but for the moment, we have heat) and we went out to dinner. We had a great time talking about the last five years and the next five years. After dinner, we had dessert and champagne and he pulled out a ring box. He bought me an anniverary band! It's beautiful and I love it.

When we got home (in time to watch the Colts), he got to open his present which was a Wii and Guitar Hero. Needless to say, he really liked it. We actually have had a lot of fun playing together. Today, when Mom and Dad Y came back with the kids, they played. Let's just say that Mom Y. kicked all of our butts on bowling. We had a blast.

Noah was in a definite funk all evening. I'm hoping that he is not getting sick. Tomorrow will tell I guess. Callie found her new best friend in grandma when she would leap out of my arms into hers. It's nice to know that she will do just fine with grandma when mommy's not there.

So now, everyone else is in bed, and I'm headed there. It's been a really great weekend. Definitely one to remember...

5 years ago today...

...I was getting dressed in wedding finery to marry the man that I fell in love with. It's hard to imagine that five years has gone by so quickly. Looking back at the years, Dave and I have to smile. We are truly blessed. We have two beautiful children, a house, a great church, and we both love Jesus.

Today, five years later...I am still in love with him today. I love the way that he plays with the kids, and is the voice of reason when the whines start to become maddening. I love the way he touches my shoulder and I feel supported and comforted all at the same time. I love that he works hard to provide for us. I love his laugh and his silly jokes intended to get me out of a funk. I love that he is a man of integrity and that he doesn't compromise his beliefs, no matter what.

Sometimes these thoughts become hazy in the midst of life with two small children, but they are there. Today, we are enjoying celebrating five years together.

I woke up to breakfast in bed (chocolate chip pancakes!) and the opportunity to sleep in. We dropped the kids of at Dave's parent's house and came back. We went to see Marley and Me (a good movie, but a definite tear-jerker). We cried and talked the whole way home. When we got home we found out the furnace wasn't working, so we had to call someone to come and fix it. (Note: Every anniversary we have had SOMEthing go "wrong" to thwart our plans. It's actually pretty laughable now.) Thankfully, the guy came quickly, and is almost finished (it's only 5:30). We still have time to go out to dinner. It's been a great day, AND we get to both sleep in tomorrow. I'm looking forward to it!

Happy Anniversary Love.

VICTORY!!!

Noah pooped in the potty for the first time tonight! Wahoo! We've been working with him for months, and tonight, he was finally able to connect the dots. Hooray!
